Levante left-back Tono Garcia arrested ‘without bail’ for alleged extortion
LEVANTE left-back Tono Garcia has been arrested for alleged extortion and threats, among other charges.
The 29-year-old has been detained by the police in Teruel alongside six other suspects, and is being held “without bail”.
Reports in Spain claim Garcia is suspected of an alleged involvement in seven crimes including belonging to a criminal group, extortion, death threats, falsification of documents and money laundering.
The investigators reportedly found the collected evidence sufficient to arrest seven suspects, including the Levante full-back.
Five of the suspects have already appeared in court while two others have been summoned.
The case is still being investigated and the judge has ruled the trial will be kept secret.

Levante have released an official statement in support of their player.
It read: “Given that the judicial proceedings are secret, Levante UD show support for the player and his family as we are unaware of the circumstances that led the investigators to take such measures.
“In order to respect the footballer in in such a difficult moment, and considering presumption of innocence, we will not publish any more statements until more facts about his detention emerge.”
Garcia has been Paco Lopez’s first-choice full-back and played in 17 La Liga games for Levante this season.
